For more than 60 years, G&S Technologies has led the way in helping utilities, businesses and industry safely remove and recycle obsolete transformers and other oil-filled electrical equipment, and rebuild those units that can still be productive. We are experts in helping you assess the functionality of your equipment; determine PCB levels where applicable; and ensure that all processing is done in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
We operate the largest processing facility for transformers and other oil-filled electrical equipment in the U.S., including the country's largest scrap metal recovery oven, which meets all US EPA requirements for incineration of drained PCB-contaminated articles (previously containing up to 499 ppm PCBs). Equipment containing 500 ppm PCBs or higher is processed in partnership with our sister company, TCI of Alabama. Our network of strategic partnerships with our sister companies, as well as with certified waste hauling contractors across the U.S., ensures that we can accommodate your needs safely and quickly, and provide rapid emergency deployment.
Our History
1963 - Gaby Newmark and Zoltan "Sol" Lefkovits form G&S with five employees and go into the business of dismantling electric motors.
1974 - G&S buys assets of Philadelphia Transformer and begins to dismantle transformers.
1989 - G&S builds new facility and grows to 40 employees.
1991 - G&S installs the largest scrap metal recovery oven in the United States, which is capable of incinerating drained PCB-contaminated articles previously containing up to 499 ppm PCBs. Jay Spector, son-in-law of Sol Lefkovits, joins G&S as General Counsel.
1992 - Jeff Lefkovits, son of Sol, joins Sales team.
1993 - Company opens in-house laboratory, Transformer Lab Services(TLS) Inc., which becomes accredited in NJ and NY.
1995 - G&S builds 40,000-square-foot warehouse and grows to 80 employees.
1997 - George Newmark, Gaby's son, joins G&S.
2000 - G&S owners buy Transtech of Spokane, Wash., and enter the Northwest utility market.
2003 - Transtech and CCUR merge and form Transformer Technologies, one of the premier electrical equipment recycling operations on the West Coast.
2006 - Owners of G&S and Transformer Technologies purchase TCI of NY and TCI Alabama.
2008 - G&S enters the transformer rebuilding business by buying share of Northeast Transformer Services (NETS) of Cortland, NY.
2013 - NETS moves to a new state-of-the-art facility in Preble, NY.
2014 - G&S grows to 120 employees at the Kearny facility with more than 350 employees in the G&S family of companies.
2015 - G&S opens satellite facility in Richmond, VA , G&S Virginia to service the state’s largest utility and other customers in need of testing, repair or recycling pole and pad mounted transformers.
2018 - G&S family of companies opens its first location in the Midwest, TCI of OH, located just outside of Columbus in Richwood OH.
2020 - G&S family of companies opens up its satellite facility in North Carolina, TCI of NC to service one of the largest utilities in the country as well as expands its TCI of OH operation.
2022 - The G&S family of companies has grown to over 550 employees across 8 facilities in the United States.
